#AudiotentTip 223. Bitcrushing Your Kick.
When designing your kick drum, if you find it’s still getting lost inside a busy mix try adding a bit crusher in parallel.
First, send the kick to a send/aux and apply a high pass filter. Next add a bitcrusher, adjust the downsampling and resolution to taste. Then, blend back in with the original kick. This can lead some very unique and gritty sounding kicks.
One of our favourite kick synthesisers that has the bitcrusher effect built into the software is D16 Group Audio Software Punchbox.
