Audiotent Tip 390. Layering with Hi-Hats.
A hi-hat can often be used as a layer for your percussive bass, synth or keyboard sounds.
It will add an extra transient bite and definition, helping to sit your instrument in the mix.
Start by choosing the right sound of the hi-hat and layer it with the exact same pattern as the original (bass, synth, keyboard etc…) layer.
Finally, mix the hi-hats in for the desired tone.
