How to use a soft/hard clipper on your kick drums
‪#‎AudiotentTip‬ 220. Clipping on Kicks.
Most of the time clipping is an undesired digital distortion. However, there are a few exceptions where soft/hard clipping can be used to your benefit. This works best on very short percussive sounds such as a kick.
First, add the clip plugin on your kick channel. Next, start clipping a little to increase the body and sharpen the transient of your kick. Be careful not to over do it, since it can lose the punch if pushed too hard.
Be aware that this technique is very source dependant and might not work with all kick sounds. Trust your ears for the final decision.
