Audiotent Tip 358. Envelopes Before Processing.
When designing sounds take the time to shape the sound exactly as you want it with the synth envelopes before you reach for that reverb, eq, distortion or any other form of post processing plugin.
For example, if you're using a compressor to help increase the attack of your sound, this could be done by reducing the attack time on the synth envelope or even assigning the modulation envelope to the master pitch of your synthesiser.
Set the attack and release very fast, leaving the decay just a little longer. This will create a nice transient click for your sound, making it punchier and sharper.
