#AudiotentTip 111. Piano Preset for Spire.
This is a walkthrough tutorial on how to create a piano character preset for Reveal-Sound Spire. You can preview the final result below:

Step 1. Initialize Spire and create a simple chord progression to your liking.
This is how it sounds like at it’s initial stage:

Step 2. Increase polyphony voices to 16.
Step 3. Select FM mode for the first oscillator and choose ‘Piano A1’ waveform.
Step 4. Set the phase of the first oscillator to 250.
Step 5. Set the pan of the first oscillator to 205.

Step 6. Increase the volume of the second oscillator to 505.
Step 7. Select FM mode for the second oscillator and choose ‘Piano A2’ waveform.
Step 8. Set the phase of the second oscillator to 530.
Step 9. Set the pan of the second oscillator to 780.

Step 10. Tweak the amp envelope in order to achieve a more natural decay and release for the sound. We want to get as close to the amp characteristic of the real piano as possible. Settings that worked well for our example are as follows:
ATT = 1
DEC = 644
SUS = 310
SLT = 0
SLL = 0
REL = 425

Step 11. Select ‘Perfecto’ algorithm for filter 1 and set it to ‘LP4’.
Step 12. Set the cutoff of the first filter to 95.
Step 13. Choose envelope 3 as a source and target the cutoff frequency of filter 1.
Step 14. Set the modulation amount for envelope 3 to 993.
Step 15. Tweak the amp envelope 3 (which in now a filter envelope) in order to achieve a more natural decay for the filter. Settings that worked well for our example are as follows:
ATT = 0
DEC = 805
SUS = 0
SLT = 0
SLL = 0
REL = 500

Step 16. It’s time to add some space and depth to our preset. Select a delay tab and set it’s dry/wet control to 60. Increase the feedback to 730 and narrow the ‘wide’ control to 170. Make sure the time for your left delay is set to 1/6 and the right delay is set to 1/8.

Step 17. Select a reverb tab and set it’s dry/wet control to 68. We are trying to achieve a larger space, so lets increase the decay to 580. To dampen higher frequencies even more, we increase the ‘damp’ control to 320 and change the colour setting to 405.

Our preset is almost done! We created a nice space using delay and reverb effects. Lets apply a few final touches…
Step 18. Add an extra density by increasing x-compressor value to 81.
Step 19. Tweak the equalizer to your taste. It could vary depending on the style of music. As an example, for deep house, you might want a mellow sound, therefore killing the high frequencies, and enhancing low midrange. For progressive house you might need more energy, to achieve that apply a boost in the high frequencies.
Settings that worked well for our example are as follows:
EQ LOW FREQ = 233
EQ LOW Q = 684
EQ LOW LEV = 825
EQ MID FREQ = 495
EQ MID Q = 195
EQ MID LEV = 818
EQ HI FREQ = 620
EQ HI Q = 420
EQ HI LEV = 606

Our preset sounds good so far, however we want to fine-tune our envelopes to make it even nicer.
Final Step 20. Change the curve of envelope 1 (main volume) to Exp2. Change the curve of envelope 3 (filter envelope) to Exp1.
We are done now! The final piano preset for Reveal-Sound Spire is ready:
